Foreword:
Although the original concepts of the science of Nanotechnology dates back to more than half a century ago, the world has taken a serious interest in undertaking research in the useful fields of Nanotechnology in the last decade of the second millenium.
In the first decade of the present century, the big-industrialized countries have made huge investments in this technology to make it a foremost tool in securing large economic resources.
Today, the considerable economic and social benefits of this technology are quite evident and its many applications in engineering, industries, medicine, cosmetics, environment, etc. has encouraged the scientists to develop and promote it to the fullest extent. In this regard, Islamic Republic of Iran has made great strides with the necessary infrastructures being established by the Presidential Nanotechnology Headquarters. To this end, University of Kashan has strived to become one of the pioneers in this field in the country.
Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, University of Kashan (INNUK).
The Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, University of Kashan with strong, youthful potentials existing, the university of Kashan began its activity in the field of Nanotechnology at the start of 2000.
With the establishment of the first Nanotechnology Research institution and undertaking of several research projects in 2002, the first Nanotechnology Research group of Iran in Dry Nanotechnology was established with the permission of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology. This group has introduced considerable development, both qualitatively and quantitatively. In the same year, the Nano Society of Iran was formed under the patronage of this university. At present, the society boasts several thousands members.
In 2004, the first Nanotechnology Research Department in Iran was established in the University of Kashan, having more than ten active research groups categorized under three major sections:
· Carbon Nano Structures
· Nano Particles
· Thin Films.
The institute was given the necessary permission by the Ministry of science, Research and Technology. This institute charted the titles of the syllabus in the Nanoscience and Nanotechnology field to enroll the first postgraduate students in the Nanophysics and Nanochemistry subjects in 2005 and in other fields such as Nanoelectronics, Nanomechanics, Nanomathematical measurements in the current year. Activities in the field of training of doctorate students in Nanophysics and Nanochemistry subjects have been undertaken recently.
